On Tuesday, July 28th, the Indianapolis Star article: “U.S. figures soar 11% in June; Indy permits also surge” outlined the rise in home sales nationally and the uptick in building permits locally. Below are key quotes from the article:

“…Sales of new homes nationally in June took their largest month-to-month jump in more than eight years … The robust 11 percent rise in new-home sales from May to June was another sign the housing market is bouncing back from its recession-induced slump…”

“…New home sales figures are not available in the Indianapolis market, but an increase in building permits in June over the previous month indicates building activity could be on the rise …The nine-county [Indianapolis] metro area saw 416 permits issued for new homes in June, which was a 22 percent jump from May … Nationally, the evidence is clear that homebuyers are taking advantage of Recovery Act tax incentives, declines in home prices and relatively low mortgage rates …”

“…homebuilding activity the rest of the year in the Indianapolis area will be equal to or better than the first six months…” predicts Steve Lains from the Builders Association of Greater Indianapolis.
